Greetings!

My name is Brian Mitchell, and I am the Founder of Freedom Consulting, LLC.

I am fortunate to say that I have the two best jobs in the world. My first job is being a dad to the two most amazing kids I could have ever asked for, my daughters Ruby and Norah (I had to choose between a picture of them or a picture of me - it was a pretty easy choice.) It is a job that I have the honor of doing with the other amazing lady in my life, my wife, Joy.

My second job, as the founder of Freedom Consulting, has given me the opportunity to work with an amazing group of students throughout Rhode Island. For the last decade, I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. During that time, I have had more positive experiences than I could ever have imagined. So many of my students have achieved seemingly impossible, life changing results - results that often exceeded my greatest expectations. I’ve had parents tell me that the work we have done together has restored some harmony to their home, allowing them to focus on being “mom” or “dad”, rather than the “homework police.” I have gotten to celebrate with dozens of students who were admitted to their top-choice college or university, often based on the time and energy they invested in the application process. I have worked with students who were given very long odds to graduate, only to see those students beat the odds and walk across the graduation stage with the rest of their class. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this work would produce such results. To be honest, even I don’t fully understand it. All I know is that being a part of these accomplishments gives me a sense of pride and excitement that I have never felt in any other line of work. Still, each time it happens, I say the same thing: the students do the hard part, I just give them some good advice and some accountability - they do the rest.

As much as I would like to think that something “magical” is happening, I’m fairly confident that is not the case. In fact, in many ways, I think some of this success can be attributed to the fact that I am the opposite of “magical” My academic experience was marked by many of the same struggles that my clients are experiencing when we first begin our work together. Many of my students are not “traditional” learners. They tend to benefit greatly from one-on-one instruction that is typically not available in the classroom. These students are often highly intelligent, but struggle with the facets of school that depend more on good habits and processes rather than just intelligence. Many of these students struggle with anxiety and a lack of self-confidence. If there is any “magic”, it is that I have been where they are now, and I know what it is needed to overcome the struggles they face. This is something I have worked on, diligently, for my entire life. Being given the chance to share what I have learned with others, and to earn a living helping others to overcome their struggles, has been one of my life’s greatest blessings.

Freedom Consulting has also become a leader in the field of college admissions consulting. Being an effective consultant requires constant immersion in all of the latest admissions research and literature. The challenge of developing, and applying evidence-based strategies based on this data is both laborious and exciting. Thus far, these efforts have proven to be well worth the investment. Many of the clients utilizing our methodology have gained admittance to schools that would have been considered a “reach” given that student’s personal and academic profile (e.g. metrics such as GPA, SAT scores, personal accomplishments, etc.) Part of Freedom Consulting’s is to provide a single-source, highly effective (yet very affordable) solution for parents who want to give their children the best chance for admission to the college of their choice. Unlike other “national” providers, Freedom Consulting offers personalized, in-home admissions consulting services for each step of the application process. We also have working relationships with virtually all of the high schools in the area, meaning that we are able to facilitate the flow of information and documentation as needed, minimizing stress and anxiety for the applicant. The college admissions process is more competitive than ever, and we intend to level the playing field by offering best-in-class service at an affordable price.

Starting and growing this business has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I would not be here were it not for the kindness of my many clients who have helped to “spread the word” about the work that we are doing together. Many of them now feel like family,… whether they like it or not :) To my clients, I would like to say “thank you!” Thank you for all that you have done, and all that you have allowed me to do. My commitment is that I will always work as hard, and as passionately, for your children as I do for my own.
